Semantic HTML
The elements of Semantic HTML I chose for my article include article, footer, unordered list (ul), h1, and h2. My goal with these was to create a structure that made sense visually as well as in the coding. I used different heading tags to clearly emphasize the hierarchy between the page title at the top and the smaller section titles in the main body. The footer is separate from the article, and even before adding styling, this semantic tag helped show this. The unordered list helped put together the bibliography in a way that made it stand out from the rest of the text.
Styling
My goal with the styling was to create an easy-to-read and visually appealing webpage. While serif fonts are not considered modern, I wanted a more classic look. Color-wise, I wanted to match the hues and tints of the first photo on the page to make it cohesive. I chose a lighter off-white color behind the text and dark green for the text so there would be enough contrast. I also wanted the portion of the webpage with words to be visually interesting without being too busy and taking away from the content. To add more appeal, I created a gradient using the three main colors of the variegated string of hearts and placed it as the overall background of the webpage. While it was not too difficult, I had to consider where I wanted to place the off-white stops so that it would create a “glow” behind the solid box in the same color.
